Chapter 6: Charlie
After getting plates full of delicious-looking food, Reagan and I joined our new friends at the table. Grace looked like she was about to say something when she was interrupted by the sound of music across the room. I looked over to see two girls close to our age—one brunette, one blonde—singing into a karaoke machine.
When I turned back toward the group, Alexis nodded her head toward the girls singing. “That’s Adrienne and Layla Harvey. The two of them are a hoot together. They just got married two weeks ago and their wedding was an absolute blast. They live about an hour from Taylor and I.”
Once the song ended, the two girls made their way over to our table with big smiles on their faces. “Crushed it, huh?” the blonde asked. She then turned toward Reagan and me. “I’m Layla. This is my fia… wait, wife… wow, that’s so crazy. This is my wife, Adrienne.”
“It’s nice to meet both of you,” I said with a smile.
Once they were seated, I took a look around the table, trying to remember everyone’s names. “So, remind me again how all of you know each other.”
Taylor was the one to speak up. “We met Adrienne and Layla at a Christmas charity event they host every year. We actually just met Kinsley and Grace in person for the first time tonight, but Kinsley and I have been online friends for about a year. We met on Twitter.”
“Totally friendship at first tweet,” Kinsley added. She looked around the table at all of us. “Now that we’ve all been formally introduced, I need to hear the stories of how everyone met. You totally get bonus points if I can turn your story into a book that makes me a bunch of money.”
Grace hit her fiancé on the shoulder. “I love a good love story, so I promise if you guys share, I won’t let her use it.”
Taylor nodded her head toward Grace and Kinsley. “You two go first. That way I have material. I’m guessing it was love at first sight.”
Kinsley scoffed. “As if. This one hated me when we first met. What was one of the first words you used to describe me, darling? I believe it was disappointment.”
Grace leaned in and kissed Kinsley’s cheek. “You can’t blame me. You were quite the douche. Well, you still are. The only difference is now you’re my douche.”
Kinsley cackled at her fiancé’s unfortunate wording. “There are so many jokes I could make right now, but I’ll let it go this time. Anyway, we met through our best friend, Leah. I was living with her at the time and Grace came to visit. One summer together was all it took for her to win me over. Pretty much, I saw those glasses and heard her snort when I said something funny and my heart was done for.”
My ears perked up when I heard the name Leah, as I made the connection with her and Grace. “Do you mean Leah King? We were on the cheerleading squad together when I was a freshman.
